WebP copies

New uploads also get smaller WebP copies, and the images you already have can be converted. Only copies that turn out smaller are kept.

Is the image optimizer free?

Yes. Compression on your own server is free and works without an Arva SEO account. Stronger compression on Arva SEO’s servers is included on every plan: 100 images a month on Free, up to 15,000 on Business.

Will compression make my images look worse?

No. Photos are saved at a quality you can’t tell apart from the original, PNGs are compressed without losing anything, and a file is only replaced when it gets at least 5% smaller.

Can I undo it?

Yes. The originals are kept in wp-content/arvaseo-originals, and Restore the originals puts them back, except files that changed since they were compressed.

Does it work with other image plugins?

If Smush, EWWW, ShortPixel, Imagify, Optimole or TinyPNG is active, Compress images stays off, so images aren’t compressed twice. The plugin’s Speed page offers to deactivate the other plugin if you prefer Arva SEO’s.

Does it convert images to WebP?

Yes. New uploads can also get WebP copies, and existing images can be converted a few at a time. Your originals stay, and Undo removes every copy.
