01Map grid scans

See where you rank across town, not just at your desk.

Local results depend on where the searcher stands. A map grid scan searches Google Maps for your keyword from points around your business and shows your position at each one.

  • Grids of 3×3, 5×5 or 7×7 points, from 250 metres to 5 kilometres apart
  • Your position from 1 to 20 at each point, and how many points put you in the top 3
  • Every scan kept, so you can compare before and after a change
  • Each point uses one map grid point from your plan

What is a map grid scan?

A set of Google Maps searches for one keyword, made from points in a square around your business. It shows how your position changes across the area, because local results depend on where the searcher is. A 5×5 scan uses 25 map grid points.

How many map grid points do I need?

A 3×3 scan uses 9 points, a 5×5 scan 25 and a 7×7 scan 49. Free includes 50 points a month, Starter 300, Professional 1,000 and Business 2,500, and 1,000 more cost $1.50 a month on any plan.

Do I need to connect my Google Business Profile?

No. A Business Profile lookup reads what Google shows publicly for your business and up to three competitors. Each lookup uses one of your plan’s Business Profile lookups.

Is the map pack tracked separately?

No. It comes with the weekly rank checks of the keywords you track, at no extra cost: whether a map pack showed, your place in it and who else was listed.

Does it work for businesses that serve an area?

Yes. A location can have a service area instead of a shop address, and the local checks look for a page for each area you serve.
