The seven sheets

An SEO checklist you fill in as you go.

Use the sheets as an SEO spreadsheet template for your own website or for a client. Work from left to right, then repeat next month: each round starts from the numbers you wrote down in the last one. Prefer to bring your own tool? Each sheet is also available as a CSV file.

Baseline

Where the website stands before you change anything: visits, Search Console clicks and impressions, enquiries, target keyword positions and known problems.

Keep it honest

What the sheets can and cannot tell you.

01

Record, don’t promise

The sheets record work and results. They do not predict rankings, and nobody can guarantee one. Only write a result into the report if your data supports it.

02

Estimates are estimates

Search volume and difficulty differ between tools and change over time. Write down which tool and which date, and treat any difficulty threshold as a screening shortcut.

03

Submitted is not published

A listing you submitted is not a link that went live. Keep both dates, use the same business details every time, and judge relevance first. Google’s spam policies describe link spam.

04

Same dates, every time

Compare the same length of time, and never a busy month with a quiet one. One change rarely explains one result, so log your changes and read the report with care.

The same steps run inside Arva SEO: a dated baseline once Google is connected, keyword research and a keyword map, audits with the Top 5 fixes first, old and new page copy, outreach status and client reports. The SEO File exports the work to Excel or Google Sheets whenever you want it.

Questions, answered.

Is this really free, with no sign-up?

Yes. The files download straight from this page. We do not ask for an email address, and nothing you type into the spreadsheet is sent to us, because the spreadsheet runs on your computer.

Does it work in Excel and Google Sheets?

The XLSX file is a standard Excel workbook with a “How to use” tab and seven working sheets. In Google Sheets, choose File, then Import, then Upload. The CSV files open in any spreadsheet app. The drop-down lists and date formats are set up in the Excel file, and other apps may handle them differently.

What does each sheet record?

The seven sheets follow the SEO process: a baseline, keyword research, a keyword-to-page map, an audit with fixes, a log of page changes, a citations and outreach log, and a monthly results report. Each card above lists the columns, and the “How to use” tab says what to record and what to avoid.

Will filling these in improve my rankings?

No. The sheets only record what you measure and what you change, so you can see later what moved. No one can guarantee a ranking, and a change in position can have many causes.

Which numbers should I trust?

Use your own data first: Search Console and Google Analytics. Search volume and difficulty are a tool’s estimates and differ between tools, so write down the tool and the date. Third-party authority scores are not Google scores.

Can I use these for my clients?

Yes. Make one copy of the workbook per website, and keep the date ranges the same from month to month. For several clients, Arva SEO keeps the same records in one workspace.
